Hi out there.....

I've created this blog so that I can keep everyone up to date and informed about what is going on with our pregnancy.

So far, we have been through one very scary night. On Wednesday, I noticed some spotting. This really freaked me out. Up to that point, we had only told a few people, but this let the cat out of the bag. Vince came home from work early, and my brother and his wife came over to give me a blessing. After the blessing, we went to the ER at Ogden Regional. We got there at 6. We sat in the lobby until 7. Then they took us back to the "gyn room" in the ER. I am grateful we were in a room, not a curtained off little area.

We wait a while longer. Then in comes the phblotimist to draw blood. She sticks once, and misses. She sticks again, and hits. The ER doctor then comes in and tells her to leave. The doc said she was really busy and would not be able to come back. So then I have a pelvic exam. What fun. She tells me that we will have an ultrasound next. The vampire comes back, and draws blood.

Then we wait. Then a CNA comes in to insert a catheter. She misses. Then a nurse comes in to insert the catheter. She gets it in. Now mind you, I had to go, and the addition of the catheter did not help this. They then clamped the catheter, as they wanted my bladder to be full. Let me tell you, I then went from mildly uncomfortable in this stretcher bed, to very uncomfortable. I had asked for a blanket several times, but had not been given one. I was cold. I never have just one pillow when I lay down, so I had a really hard time getting comfortable, so I just gave up. For the next 2 hours or so, I had my knees bent, sticking up.

Then they push me to radiology, for the ultrasound. When we get there, the tech decides that my bladder is not full enough, and adds more saline solution through the catheter. REALLY, uncomfortable at this point. She gives me a guided tour of my uterus, ovaries, etc. She needs a different view to see the baby, so she finally allows my catheter to drain. HALLELUJAH!!!

So she gets the probe out and takes a different angle to see the baby. We then get to see the most wondrous sight. Our little rice bean, with a strong heart beat. Seriously, it looked like the baby's entire body shook with each heartbeat. It has a strong heartbeat, 106, and we got to hear it. Just seeing that and knowing the baby was still ok, and the heart was beating, made this entire evening bearable.

So then we go back to the little room. Vince and I get forgotten. By this point we can relax, so we get bored. We play the games on our cells and my PDA. Vince found me a "Utah Sports" magazine, because I was really bored. (Note At the UofU ER, they give you TVs.) I can't really relax because of the lack of blankets and pillows, and the fact that there was an old lady with dementia hollering out in the ER, and 2 babies crying. Once the nurse popped in and told me I could get dressed. I reminded her I still had the catheter in. She said "Didn't the Ultrasound tech take it out?" and I said "No." She said it needed to come out, and left.

So then the doctor comes in. She tells me I had a "threatened miscarriage" and that I have a 50/50 chance of still miscarrying. She said things look good, and that I can go home. She tells me I need to see my OB tomorrow. Finally, the nurse comes back and removes the catheter. Right as we get to leave, my mom gets there. She gives us a hug and is glad to hear that things are ok. She then tells Vince that one day our baby will be a teenager, and this will be harder then.

I think I failed to mention how emotionally draining and exhausting this evening was. I was very upset, and so worried I had lost the baby. Vince was wonderful, by my side for everything. He said he felt out of place, but I needed him right there. He was just wonderful and showed again how much he loves me.

So we go home. I am exhausted, so I crash into bed.

So the next morning, I get an appointment with the OB. She was recommends to me by my regular doctor, and by my estetician, who does my eyebrows. I get there and the place looks like a nice hotel lobby, not a doctor's office.

After the weight, height, and ususal urine test, I get to see the doctor. She is really nice, and I like her. She tells me that the spotting is normal, and that everything looks ok. I have another ultrasound. I will get an ultrasound each visit, and they tape them. So now I have babies first picture and videos! The ultrasound goes well, and the heart is beating and looking great. She tells me I don't have a 50/50 chance of miscarrying, it is more like 5%. She sends me for more blood work.

My mom came and took me to this appointment. Vince could not come because he was taking a test. I am glad my mom came because there were stinky bananas in my car, making it undriveable. So she got to see the ultrasound as well. I tried to record the heartbeat on my PDA, but I just got noise.

Everything looks good for the baby. I'm 6 weeks and 2 days as of today. I'm now due on June 22. I'm having a hard time with nausea, but I'm ok.
